KHK Japan, a leading manufacturer of gears, offers a range of surface treatment solutions designed primarily to improve corrosion and wear resistance, as well as to enhance the quality and performance of gears:
Electro-galvanizing - a coating to prevent corrosion in steels. The coating gives the gear a smooth and aesthetic finish. The coating thickness can reach up to 2 microns.
Uni-chromate - a cheaper treatment to prevent corrosion in steels but not as good as Electro-galvanizing. The treatment gives the gear a white-silver color. It is important to note that in carrying out this treatment, the produced gear will not be eligible for RoHS certification unless a treatment called Trivalent-chromate is requested.
Black-chromate - a treatment to prevent corrosion, higher quality than Electro-galvanizing. The treatment gives the gear a black color. It is important to note that in carrying out this treatment, the produced gear will not be eligible for RoHS certification unless a treatment called Trivalent black-chromate is requested.
Electroless Nickel Plating - a coating to prevent corrosion in steels and resistance to wear. This coating is suitable for a gear with a high requirement for precise uniform thickness and volume, or for gears with complex shapes. This is a relatively expensive but high-quality coating that is widely accepted in many industries.
Black oxide Treatment - a coating to prevent corrosion Intended for common metals such as steel, stainless steel, copper and its alloys, zinc, and more. The coating is relatively durable and does not peel easily, it is very thin, about 3 microns, and therefore will preserve the shape of the gear.
Raydent Treatment - A high-quality coating for corrosion resistance produced by RAYDENT. Commonly used in the semiconductor, electronics, and optics industries, as well as widely accepted in military industries. The coating is very precise and does not peel, with a thickness of 1-2 microns.
Phosphate Treatment - an iron coating for steels to prevent corrosion and wear resistance. It is also used as a base before painting, with a coating thickness ranging up to 3 microns.
Solid Lubrication Treatment - The coating enhances resistance to wear and reduces friction. The coating is applied by spreading or spraying the substance. It is suitable for the food industry as it has an NSF approval and is commonly used in industries where it is difficult to lubricate moving parts during operation.
